PROFILE OF LATE MAYOR  TAYO ADELANI SHITU

Tayo Adelani Shitu was born on 11th April 1952 to Mr. Akanbi & Mrs. Adunni Shitu,Who are both late and were Muslims. He attendend DC Primary School,Araromi Iwo,Nigeria and completed is first School leaving certificate at age of 13. By this time,things were becoming difficult for Tayo Adelani Shitu because His father was a Cocoa produce buyer got trapped into recession and His Bussiness nose Dived and so could no longer afford to send Tayo to School any further. Adelani immediately grew up to become an adult,at early age,vending for himself. He became apprentice pharmaceutical medicine seller. In total,he spent eight years of his post-Primary education,working and saving every penny along the way.

It was the savings young Tayo Adelani made that he used to enrolled himself to the then Local Authority Commercial Modern School,Iwo. Later,Tayo Adelani proceeded to Wesley College Ibadan,From where He qualified as a teacher. He then took GCE O/Levels exams with which he gained admission to The Polytechnic Ibadan,Oyo state Nigeria. He graduated with HND in Business studies before Migrating to United Kingdom in 1985. Upon arrival in the U.K. Tayo attended Guildhall and South Bank Universities where he stidied accountancy.

Councillor Tayo Shitu was elected Mayor of Southwark at the Annual General Meeting of tha council Of Assembly on 19th May 2010 and was supposed to have completed his term on Wednesday 18 May 2011 before His creator decided called him home earlier. He lived more than 20years in the London Borough of Southwark where he was trustee and Volunteer for many organizations. He also represented the Local community for many years before being elected to the council in 2002,representing Peckham ward. As a Councillor,His Priorities were to see more jobs for local people and better services for the young and Vulnerable. He appointed his wife,Mrs Abike Shitu,as his Consort for his mayoral year; while his Son,Micheal Kayode Shitu,also got elected as a councilor,in his right,in May 2010.

His diplomatic is to getting things done led to organising a number of meetings with representative of UK to recall such meetings,among many others,with Harriet Harman,QC prior to her Visit to the UK and one other involving the then Secretary to the Department of International Development (DFID),Hilary Ben and Harriet Harman,when UK government banned Visa issuance to Nigerians,aged 18 to 30 years. Few Days before His Death,to be Precised,On 3rd May 2011,even on sick bed,he appended his signature to the Memorandum of Partnership between London Borough of Southwark where he was the Mayor and Osun state Government of Nigeria,represented by the Executive Governor,Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from his state birth in Nigeria.
