CITATION ON BARRISTER ALAYO KABIR AKANBI
Alayo Kabir AKANBI is a journalist turned lawyer. He holds LL.M; LL.B; B.L and HND in Mass Communication.
Born on September 14 in the late 70s at Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire into the devout muslim family of Alhaji and Mrs. Abdul-Azeez Adebayo Alayo Akanbi of Petugbele’s Compound, Isale Oba Quarters, Iwo, (both of blessed memory). Alayo Kabir had his elementary education at the Baptist Day School, Oke Odo, Iwo between 1983-1990 and In 1991, Alayo started his secondary school education at Islahudeen Community Grammar School, Iwo and later went to Iwo Grammar School, Iwo and Baptist High School, Iwo.
Alayo obtained National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication at The Polytechnic Ibadan in 2002 during which he was the Editor-in-Chief, Anchor Press Club and thereafter proceeded to the Federal Polytechnic Offa where he obtained Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication with Upper Credit Classification in 2006. Alayo also obtained a Proficiency Certificate in Management from the Nigerian Institute of Management in 2009.
He had his primary assignment for the National Youth Service Corps in 2007 at the Ministry of Information and Home Affairs, Ilorin, Kwara State where he served as the Press Secretary to the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Hon. Abdulmumeen KATIBI. During his NYSC, ALAYO was the Editor-in-Chief, KWARA KOPA and KWARA FLASH, publications of NYSC, Kwara State. Earlier, in 2005, he served as the National President, Federation of Iwoland Students’ Union (FILSU) wherein he actively engaged himself in community development programmes.
Alayo worked briefly as a Reporter attached to the political desk of the defunct Monitor Newspapers Ibadan in 2002 under the management team led by Alhaji Liad Tella and also served as a News Correspondent with Ogun State Television (OGTV) in 2003.
‘Prof. ALAYO’ as fondly called by his friends, colleagues and associates especially at the Poly Ibadan, has exhibited great degree of brilliance and academic excellence right from his childhood and thus developed a great deal of enthusiasm for education from then till date.
Alayo later proceeded to University of Ilorin where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws, LL.B. (Hons) with a Second Class Upper Division in 2011 and having emerged as the overall best student in Conveyance and Legal Drafting of the Department of Private and Property Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Alayo bagged the University of Ilorin Scholarship to the Nigerian Law School. He also served as the President of Human Rights Chambers, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin in 2010.
He attended the Nigerian Law School where he obtained his B.L. (Second Class Upper Division) and was called to bar on 20th November, 2012 as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and was among the best 5s recommended for employment at Aluko & Oyebode Law firm by the management of the Nigerian Law School.
Meanwhile, Alayo also obtained Master of Laws (LL.M) from University of Lagos where he emerged as the best post-graduate LL.M student in Private & Property Law of the University of Lagos in 2016.
Barrister Alayo began his law practical attachment from A.O. Mohammmed, SAN & Co, Ilorin; Tewogbade Tawfiq Alfriqiy Chambers, Iwo and then to FALANA & FALANA Chambers, Ikeja, Lagos. Barrister Alayo further developed his law career at WKS Legal Practitioners & Arbitrators, Ikeja, Lagos and through dedication, unflinching commitment to duties and the grace of Allah, Barr. Alayo rose and became the Head of Chambers, WKS LP between 2014 and 2016 when he opened ALAYO AKANBI CHAMBERS (AAC), Lagos.
He has also gained broad experience in several aspects of local and international laws. He has been rendering strategic legal advice on several subjects covering Taxation, Admiralty Matters, Banking & Finance, Oil & Gas, Cyberlaw, Land, Corporation, Contracts, Human Rights Issues, Domestic & Family Relationship, Probate, Master-Servant Relationships including unlawful and compulsory determination of employment among others.
Barrister ALAYO has traversed all hierarchy of courts in Nigeria, he is a great advocate who pays attention to all details in his case, he has received accolades and commendations from members of the bench and some senior members of the bar including Hon. Justice S. S. Ogunsanya and the authority himself, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN.
He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikeja Branch, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He is happily married to his best friend, Hajia Yemi ALAYO and they are blessed with wonderful kids- Kafiilah & Kairah.
