Report of Iwoland Development Coalition Secondary School Tour

Iwoland Secondary School Tour Progaramme is an initiatives of illustrious, progressive, and development-minded sons and daughters of Iwoland (Ayedire, Iwo and Ola-Olu  wa LGAs) under the auspices of a virile front called Iwoland Development Coalition.

The school tour is aimed at ameliorating the dilapidated educational system in Osun state with Iwoland as the special target. It was born out of a zeal for sound and well-educated successor generation in Iwoland, therefore the IDC members resolved to help themselves (the future of their fatherland) because they believe that “self-help is the best help”.

The first edition of the tour took place in the year 2015 and it was seen to be fruitful in the academic performance of Iwoland students, therefore the IDC as a community based organization choose not to rest until our good is better and our better turn out to be the best .

The second phase of the tour started on 16th of May and ends on 7th of June, 2016. Six different secondary school were visited in the course of the tour. The six schools which were strategically and evenly selected among the three local government constituting Iwoalnd. The schools are;

Adatan Community High School, Asa
Luther King’s College, Ileogbo
Community Grammar School, Elemo/Adana
Bode-Osi Community Grammar School, Bode-Osi
Community Grammar School, Kuta
L A Commercial Grammar School, Iwo

Staffs and students of each of the schools welcomed the IDC team enthusiastically and students were assembled in their school hall or under a tree as the case may be with immediate alacrity. IDC crew (Resource persons) which were outstanding indigenes of Iwoland were drawn from different works of life such as in agriculture, fashion, engineering, accounting, technical and vocational work. They all did adequate justices to each of the topic given to them.

The thematic area that the tour was centered around were; Academic Excellence, Leadership, Career talk, Entrepreneurship and Community Development It was observed that the current educational standard of Osun state has reduced drastically and the intellectual prowess of many students is pitiable. Despite that, there are few outstanding students who are exceptionally gifted and have good and appreciable academic performance.

It was also discovered that inadequate teachers in our public schools poses a great threat to the performance of the students especially in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. English Language, Accounting and Literature in English. We also noticed that some of the male students especially in our schools in the remote area have in them the hooliganism tendencies as seen in their dressing, speeches and actions. All the participants (students) across the six schools were given customized IDC notebook and pen.

Light refreshment were equally given to all the students in the course of the programme. More than two thousand notebooks were distributed freely to the students. Also 240 textbooks (novels), mathematical sets, purse, pen were as well distributed among the students. Best students in six core subjects were sourced from the school authority and each of them was given a sweat shirts, four novels and notebooks in all the six schools. This is done to encourage them to take their studies more serious.

The second phase of the school tour would not have been a success without the immeasurable support, commitment and unity of purpose among the IDC team who voluntarily sacrifice their time, energy, intelligence and resources to impact the students and make a difference in our society. The following people deserved to be commended for their patriotic spirit throughout the school tour despite all odds:
